Edge-to-Edge Quilting
Prices are based on the number of square inches to be quilted. Quilting is priced at $0.025 per square inch The minimum quilting charge is $50.00.
To determine the number of square inches, multiply the width of your quilt top by the length. Small projects will have the quilting charge rounded up to the minimum quilting charge.
- Example: 45-inches X 45-inches = 2025 square inches
- 2025 square inches X $0.025 per inch = $50.63 for quilting*
- *Minimum quilting charge = $50.00
Semi-Custom Quilting
Semi-custom quilting includes one edge-to-edge design in the center of the quilt surrounded by one border. Semi-custom quilting is priced at $0.045 per square inch with a minimum charge of $70.
- Example: 40-inches X 40-inches = 1600 square inches
- 1600 square inches X $0.045 = $72.00 for quilting*
- *Minimum quilting charge = $70.00
Custom Quilting
Custom quilting includes all “stitch-in-the-ditch” work and/or quilting individual patterns in specific parts of the quilt (blocks or borders). Custom quilting is priced at $20 per hour with a minimum charge of $100.
Quilting Yardage
Whether you are bag maker or someone who enjoys cosplay or reenactment, having fabric yardage quilted on a longarm quilting frame can be a time saver! Rates vary depending on the fabrics and the stabilizer or batting used.
When quilting yardage, you may need additional fabric for your project to account for the fabric-draw after quilting.
Fabric-draw is the shrinkage or “draw-up” that occurs when fabric is quilted. The amount of draw depends on several factors.
Quilt Basting
If you are a hand quilter or machine quilt on a sit-down machine, consider having your quilt sandwich thread basted on the longarm frame.
The rate for quilt basting is $0.018 per square inch with a minimum charge of $25.00. Small projects will have the quilting charge rounded up to meet the minimum quilting charge.
- Example: 40-inches X 40-inches = 1600 square inches
- 1600 square inches X $0.018 = $28.80 for quilting*
- *Minimum quilting charge = $25.00
Batting
Quilt batting is available to purchase. Please inquire about our batting availability when you schedule your quilt top delivery. You are welcome to provide your choice of high quality, low or mid loft batting.
Batting purchased from us is a separate charge and is not included in the minimum quilting price.
Thread
We use threads that are the same color, weight and fiber content in the bobbin and top thread. We primarily use Glide thread and have a variety of colors available. We do stock a limited variety of cotton threads.
Please let us know your preferences regarding thread color when scheduling your quilting service.
Thread cost is charged by the number of bobbins used to complete the quilting. Thread charges are separate from the minimum quilting charge.
Backing
Backing fabric will be loaded in the frame as it arrives at the studio, wrinkles and all. Please take the time to properly prepare you backing.
If your backing fabric is a wide back, please consider pre-washing it to remove excess sizing.
Backing Requirements:
- the backing must be 8-10″ larger than the quilt top both lengthwise and width-wise
- backings must be square on all sides*
- any seams in the backing should be pressed open
- specialty backing fabrics that require extra care will result in a Backing Surcharge**
*Tearing or ripping your backing fabric is an excellent way to ensure that it is square. Consider purchasing an extra 1/4 yard of fabric before ripping it from selvedge to selvedge.
**Fabrics such as fleece, minky or anything that is excessively stretchy requires extra care and will result in a Backing Surcharge. The backing surcharge for specialty backing fabric is $25 for a small quilt and $50 for a large quilt.
Backings that are too small, too large or require additional time and effort on the quilter’s part will result in additional service charges.
Additional Costs
The State of Florida and Volusia County require sales taxes be collected on the quilting service and all supplies used in quilting your quilt (thread, batting, backing fabric, etc.).
Potential/Optional Add-On Charges:
There are several services that may be appropriate to add onto your quilting service. These services are in addition to the quilting service and are charged appropriately. Some examples of additional work include:
